I was born and raised here in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. When I was 16, I started working at the store – then-named Pittsburgh Paints – as a part-time framer. Staying close to home, I attended Northern State University as an Art Major in 1970, and in 1972, I began working at the store as an assistant manager. In 1973, I purchased the store with a partner, and we changed the name to D&D Paint and Frame. When my partner left in 1974, my wife Sheryl and I ran the store until 2020.
When we started the store, it was located at 118 N Main. Our location has moved to 107 N. Main, 419 S. Main, 401 S. Main, 523 S. Main, and finally landed in our current location of 21 N. Main in 2019.
When we began D&D Paint and Frame, we specialized in paint, wallpaper, and picture framing. Over the years our business has expanded to include more complex services such as drafting plans for new homes, reconfiguring existing homes, and other interior design services such as carpet, tile and other floor coverings, furniture, accessories, cabinets, countertops, lighting and many others product lines. In 2005, we decided to change our name to Interior Design Concepts to more accurately reflect the various types of products and services we offer.
In 2020, we sold the business to Jill Fonder. My wife and I were so pleased to find a buyer with our core values of stellar customer service and a commitment to excellence. I agreed to stay on and work as a designer which is something I enjoy very much. I have really been blessed from my years in this business. I’ve formed so many great relationships and consider many of my clients to be lifetime friends.
